Ateísmo Científico: um manifesto

Imagem

Science explains, not describes The experience of consciousness seems incommunicable and ineffable. Yet science can hope to explain how it arises   (2) Tweet this  (27) Comments ( 31 ) Sue Blackmore guardian.co.uk , Monday 12 July 2010 10.25 BST Article history The question:  Can science explain everything? When Andrew Brown first posed this week's question to me he asked "Can science describe everything?". My instant, unreflective reply was "No". He implied that this might be a less restrictive question than "Can science explain everything" and yet my instant reaction to this one was "Yes". I'd like to explore this curious difference. Science can (potentially at least) explain everything because its ways of trying to understand the universe by asking questions of it should not leave any areas off-limits. The methods of openness, inquiry, curiosity, theory building, hypothesis testing and so on can be adapted and developed to explore and ...

"Exciting and provocative... Acharya S has done a superb job in bringing together this rich panoply of ancient world mythology and culture, and presenting it in a comprehensive and compelling fashion." What Are Acharya's Credentials? (NB: The following is an autobiographical essay , not a curriculum vitae, and incorporates creative writing rather than serving as a straightforward recitation of my credentials.) Over the years that I have been online, many people have wondered about my credentials, particularly since I write about contro...

“Earl Doherty is a masterful writer and an indefatigable scholar who leaves no relevant stone unturned. Any critic who seeks (desperately) to write him off because he writes without establishment academic credentials only demonstrates how far he himself falls short of recognizing real scholarship when he sees it. Has Doherty had to resort to publishing his own books? So did Hume . That’s no excuse for anyone interested in the Christ Myth or the historical Jesus not to read this all-encompassing book…Earl Doherty’s masterpiece.” Robert M. Price, author of Deconstructing Jesus , The Incredible Shrinking Son of Man , and The Pre-Nicene New Testament .

Era Pitágoras um charlatão?

Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy Pythagoras First published Wed Feb 23, 2005; substantive revision Fri Nov 13, 2009 Pythagoras, one of the most famous and controversial ancient Greek philosophers, lived from ca. 570 to ca. 490 BCE. He spent his early years on the island of Samos, off the coast of modern Turkey. At the age of forty, however, he emigrated to the city of Croton in southern Italy and most of his philosophical activity occurred there. Pythagoras wrote nothing, nor were there any detailed accounts of his thought written by contemporaries. By the first centuries BCE, moreover, it became fashionable to present Pythagoras in a largely unhistorical fashion as a semi-divine figure, who originated all that was true in the Greek philosophical tradition, including many of Plato's and Aristotle's mature ideas. A number of treatises were forged in...
